This class marks the beginning of a new term here at our Iyengar yoga studio. We will be easing into the practice and remembering all the important lessons we have learnt so far by going through some of the more foundational standing and sitting poses as well as some inversions.
The aim of today’s class is to bring evenness back to our bodies, ease into the practice, and refresh our memory. It often happens, especially as you get more experienced, that you will find that a form of practice that worked for you in the past has become less effective and, perhaps, even counterproductive. This is why one of the goals of our learning experience is to make us more adaptable and flexible – not just in our bodies, but also in our minds.
Guruji himself said that the point of yoga is to break down the rigidity in our minds and teach us to approach any given situation from different angles. And so, in today’s class, we will pace ourselves a little more in order to get a chance to put these ideas into practice.
