This is a comprehensive backbend session for advanced-level students looking to achieve a more even elongation in their spine and to review and strengthen the foundations necessary for doing this.
We will start off with some standing poses and inversions, aimed at heating up the body, stimulating blood flow, and softly opening up the back body.
The backbends should come easier after this prolonged warm-up. We will also be using some props — a chair and belt — to help us get deeper into the bends.
To finish off, we will release our legs and lower back by performing the splits and then move on to do some supine stretches and Viparita Karani, a mild restorative backbend.
