This is a recording of the first advanced class of the second term at the Balmain Iyengar Yoga Studio. This class will be dedicated to standing poses. It is aimed at advanced students but it can also prove to be useful for teacher trainees: the poses will be held for longer stretches of time, allowing for a more in-depth analysis of all the nuances involved in performing them.
You will be encouraged to consider what it means to perform this or that action, what is happening in your body, and, once you complete a pose, you should ask yourself, “What did it bring?” before moving on to the next pose. Such thoughts can be very productive: a sense of “being interested” in what we are doing promotes awareness and contributes to a more fulfilling practice.
