What is the focus of this video?
This sequence is aimed at the beginner student, new to Iyengar yoga. The video aims at creating a methodical step by step introduction into the first basic postures and giving a taste of the foundation Iyengar yoga sets up from the start to allow for a systematic progression class by class.
Step by step guide to the sequence
You will start off lying back over a bolster, to open the chest, quieten the eyes, face, and breath to settle into your yoga session.
You will learn the transition from pose to pose, and given some advice about the occasion simple modifications that may be needed by some students.
We work first through a few of the foundation standing poses, looking at the alignment and shape of those poses to create a base to work from.
A sitting pose after the leg work and how to find the correct way to sit upright and keep the spine lifting, with any necessary modifications explained for each pose.
We finish the sequence with a simple version of legs up the wall, which is both restful for the legs and restorative to your breath and energy overall.
You will finish the session, as with each Iyengar yoga session, in Savasana – a resting pose to bring about neutrality and calm after the more active work.
