Padmasana, also known as the Lotus Pose, is probably one of the most iconic yoga poses. It has many benefits, being a pose that’s capable of both grounding and energising the practitioner. This is why it has so many uses and can be incorporated into almost any type of sequence.
However, being a fairly advanced pose that requires a lot of flexibility and joint mobility, Padmasana takes some practice to get right. In this class, we will go through some of the motions that can be useful in warming up the muscles for this pose. We will go through a mix of poses — standing, inversions, seated, and supine — as well as some preparatory poses and variations of Padmasana before attempting the full pose.
It is important to remember that the aim of this class isn’t for us to necessarily get the pose right immediately. It might take several repetitions before our bodies are ready. Throughout our daily yoga practice, we must honour and be aware of our limitations and adjust our approach accordingly.
