January Intensive at The Balmain Iyengar Yoga Studio
In this course
Restorative Session to Soften and Increase Capacity
After a relatively intense asana practice with a focus on inversions, we settle in for about an hour of contemplation in more static, less strenuous poses aimed at grounding us and bringing more awareness to our practice.
Expanding the Mind Through Even Extension
In this advanced standing pose sequence, we will look at how we can achieve even extension and expand our minds in the process.
Grounding and Observation in Backbends
In this intense session, advanced students and those in teacher training will be focussing mostly on backbends.
About the course
An intense course for experienced students and those in teacher training. Filmed at the Balmain Iyengar Yoga Studio in January 2022 and taught by Pixie Lillas.
In this course, students will be able to explore such concepts as expansion, release, grounding, and observation, while consolidating their knowledge and expression of poses from different pose groups: standing, forward bends, backbends, and restorative. By going deeper and holding poses for longer stretches of time, students will have the opportunity to get to know each pose on a different level and bring a new layer of understanding and awareness to their practice.
The course will start with a restorative class, in which we will lay the foundations for the other classes. We will see how we can increase our capacity for extension by using our breath. After three strenuous and powerful sessions, we will conclude the course with another restorative class, which, unlike the first one, will be more focused on letting go and relaxing.
